This fabulous Scottish-style brooch was most likely made in England around 1870. It may have been crafted in Scotland, although in reality, most "Scottish" jewelry made during this period was actually crafted in the jewelry centers of Birmingham and Chester and then shipped to Scotland to be sold in shops, where these interpretations of Scottish jewelry heritage were snapped up by tourists following the royal court to their castle at Barmoral. They were brought back to England as souvenirs.
This brooch features a beautiful carved cross on top, made from a natural slice of agate.
The fittings are beautifully crafted from sterling silver and hand-engraved and detailed. A stunning wire braiding wraps around the entire anchor, a perfect interpretation of rope.
The pin measures 6 x 3.2 cm
Condition: excellent
