Antique grooved cuff bracelet. The front decoration is enclosed between two vertical stops decorated with beads. Three bright red glass pastes are placed horizontally together with two other beads vertically. The sober but elegant ensemble made it and makes it a jewel that can be worn every day. The snap closure is further secured by the original connecting chain. Made of 14 karat gold in central-southern Italy.
The popular goldsmith's art that spread throughout central and southern Italy was rich in creativity and manual skill and every piece of jewelery had a ceremonial function. Earrings and necklace pendants were generally given as gifts by suitors on the first official date at the girl's house. Only at the engagement would he receive the ring. The necklace, generally given as a gift by the mother-in-law, was given the day before the wedding.
The bracelet is the rarest piece as it remained the prerogative of the aristocratic and bourgeois classes for a long time and it was only at the end of the 19th century that it became more popular even among the less wealthy classes but always with varied and less definable styles compared to other jewels of tradition. The bracelet followed the evolution of fashions and this is why surprising and very varied models are found.
