Museum inkwell made by Elkington for the Grat Exhibition in London

At the Great Universal Exhibition, ( video ) ( story ) of 1851, organized by Prince Albert and Henry Cole, held at the Crystal Palace in Hyde Park in London as an international showcase to promote modern technology and the success of industry, Henry Elkington presented a similar inkwell designed by Jhon Leighton (Designer and illustrator) with scenes of illustrious exponents of the Arts, Sciences and Crafts.
The ink globe containing its original bottle summarizes the international nature of the event and the base portrays nine scenes that illustrate the various activities. Along the edge, the ribbons bear the names of the most famous artists and scientists who gave life to the new industrial and technological era.
An identical example can be seen at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
