History of Blancpain - Switzerland

Founded in 1735 by Jehan-Jacques Blancpain in Villeret, Switzerland, it is considered the oldest watch brand still in operation.
For over two centuries it remained a family business, passed down from generation to generation.

-Innovations

In the 19th century, Blancpain distinguished itself by adopting modern industrial processes while maintaining artisanal quality.
In the 1930s, it launched the “Rolls” model, one of the first automatic wristwatches.
In 1953, it presented the legendary Fifty Fathoms, the first modern diving watch, developed in collaboration with French Navy divers. This model would become an icon, widely used even by elite military teams.

-Crisis and rebirth

In the 1970s, with the quartz crisis, Blancpain temporarily stopped production.
In 1983 it was relaunched by Jean-Claude Biver and Jacques Piguet, with the slogan: “Blancpain has never made and will never make quartz watches”.
In the 1980s and 1990s, it established itself as a traditional haute horlogerie brand, with complications such as perpetual calendars, tourbillons and minute repeaters.

It has belonged to the Swatch Group since 1992.
It specializes in luxury watches, produced in limited quantities and with the highest level of craftsmanship.
Its flagship models remain the Fifty Fathoms (diver's watch) and the Villeret (elegant classic line).
