Ancient and rare silver sugar shaker of standard Britannia fineness 958/1000.
Made with an octagonal body, according to the new styles of the moment, introduced as a model in the early 18th century.
It will probably be the most replicated model in the following years.
Made by the well-known silversmith Thomas Bamford, active since 1720, he specializes in extremely high quality sugar casters.
At that time the standard fineness of silver could be Sterling equal to 925/1000 or Britannia which corresponded to 958/1000.
This sugar shaker bears the marks of Thomas Bamford, of the City of London in the year 1720 as well as the standard Britannia title hallmark.
